Farms

Derrybeg Farm CSA is a community-supported agriculture project, where local members support the farm in advance and receive weekly seasonal vegetables during nine months of the year. This model provides a fair livelihood for the farmer while sharing responsibility and risk within the community.
Founded in 2012, the organic community farm is rooted in biodiversity, sustainability and community involvement, working together to care for the land and strengthen local food systems.
Aisling, the sole farmer and manager for the past ten years, has overseen all operations on the farm and assures that, “we are organic”. Although Derrybeg Farm CSA does not have official organic certification1 they grow all their vegetables organically, without pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or artificial fertilisers. All their seeds are organic, as are their tomato feed, and enriched minerals they use throughout the farm.

In 2023, Killadoon Milk – a family-run farm – was set up as a way of supplying milk directly to the customer. They are a single source dairy farm in Killadoon, Celbridge, and the milk is pasteurised and un-homogenised.
They also have four flavoured* milks – chocolate, strawberry, salted caramel, and banana. Killadoon Milk is available to purchase from vending machines and selected stockists in Kildare and Dublin.
*Awaiting confirmation as to whether these are all gluten-free.

Brewer, Butcher & Market

The Rye River Brewing Company has been brewing beer in Co. Kildare since 2013. Founded on a love of great-tasting beer, the brewery has grown into a team of brewers and beer lovers who continually experiment and refine their craft. They produce exclusive beers for major Irish retailers while continuing to grow, guided by their values, people and process.

Named after the Rye Water river in Kilcock, Co. Kildare where they started the brewery before relocating to Celbridge in 2016, reflecting their respect for and connection to the land. They also offer regular brewery tours and have started a community run club to promote health and togetherness in the area.
Gluten-free products:

Fitzpatricks is the only independent butcher’s shop in Celbridge. Noel the butcher, a Kildare man, informed me that their meat is sourced from a Kildare farm, O’ Gorman Meats in Castledermot.
Gluten-free products: Fitzpatricks offer a good range of gluten-free items including sausages, crumbed chicken burgers and tenders, Rosie & Jim‘s battered chicken chunks, ready-made stir-fry mixes, and they also stock gluten-free sauces from the Spice O’ Life range.
